How to Get a VIN and Title for a Reproduction Classic Truck Cab or Blazer Body

With the growing popularity of our reproduction 3100 and C10 cabs and K5 blazer bodies, we've been getting the same questions quite a bit:

The first question we get a lot is, "Does a reproduction cab or Blazer body come with a vin and title?" The short answer is no.  Which is then followed by the next logical question, "How easy is it to register my truck without one?" to which we answer: depends on where you live.

Why doesn't a reproduction truck cab or Blazer body come with a title?

The reproduction classic Chevy truck cabs and Blazer bodies we are assembling are essentially a giant patch panel. If your cab or body is rusted out or in need of too much repair to salvage, you can purchase a replacement...just like you would a patch panel or replacement fender if needed. These cabs and Blazer bodies are not complete vehicles, just replacement body panels.

How do I get a VIN and Title for my Reproduction Cab or Blazer Body?

You don't. Just like you don't get a vin and/or title for a reproduction hood or bumper. This (albeit giant) patch panel is no different. Your VIN and title were originally created to identify the vehicle as a whole. In most instances, you'll use the VIN that was originally titled to your classic vehicle, but be sure to contact your local DMV for more information specific to your location.

If I don't get a vin or title, how can I register my classic vehicle?

Title and VIN laws vary dramatically by state, so always check your state’s DMV website or visit in person with any questions. Some states are strict, while others are much more lenient.

SEMA Action Network has put together an informative, interactive site with information on titling a classic vehicle by US state here.

Getting a title and VIN for a classic car or truck may seem intimidating, but thousands of people do it every year. Whether it’s a rusty barn find or a resto-mod C10 project, the process is entirely manageable if you follow the steps required by your local DMV.

If and when you find yourself needing a reproduction cab or Blazer body, we are here to help build exactly what you want and need to bring your classic C10 truck or K5 Blazer back to life.
